LS6 PROJECT - LOCATION RESEARCH

LOCATION??

Location Overview:

Leeds Arts Union
Community Centres

Open Source Arts- Venue Hire

Studio Space: Suitable as its available for 15-80 people which is a good size for our project.

“This is a bright, warm and airy studio space. This flexible space has an oak sprung dance floor and a softer carpeted floor can be temporarily used on top. Sofas, chairs, tables, or a breakout area can be arranged. This space can be used for movement based practices, conferences, workshops and presentations. The walls are either corkboard (pins allowed) or mirrors.
“Dimensions: 14m x 7m.”

Plenary Space:
This downstairs space is flexible and ideal for conferences or intimate concerts. The plenary area houses some temporary visual exhibition space.
Dimensions: 11m x 12m. Capacity: 120.

More suitable as it can be used as an exhibition space- to we’d be allowed to stick things onto the wall. I.e. Vinyl Logos etc and posters.

Primary School - Brudenell Primary
This would be a good way to get into the community and involve families and locals but there are risks and issues with allowing the general public to have access to a primary school. It is not a safe option.

Exhibition Spaces

Cardigan Centre - within LS6 and also available for Booking

Feedback
  • Pitch has to be bite-sized, adjusted for the actual presentation
  • Overall rationale it works.
  • Initial slide on the presentation is the tweet size version of this.
  • Could propose that we could work with other organisations.
  • Show an awareness that similar events are happening and how we are going to do it differently
  • Do questionnaire now - do the qualitative research now
  • Trial the project
  • Up to use how we want to present it - is there a reveal?
  • Name works
  • Demo branding
Overview/Rationale Draft
Most university students move into the LS6 and Hyde Park area, but what a lot of students aren't always aware of is the impact they have on the local community that consider this area their home; families who have grown up in the area, elders, and children. Students can disrupt this, and make it hard for these communities (drinking, loud music, parties, and gentrification.)

LS6 Project aims to bring the community together by gathering a personal understanding of the issues that the local community wants to see fixed or changed, and then bringing attention to it in a way that gets everyone involved.

A relief print fair where locals, parents, children, and students can produce posters in a fun and engaging way bringing light to the issues derived from the qualitative research that will then be placed around the area (in a professional way) to remind current students and communicate to new students. *new students are generally not aware, it's a word-of-mouth issue.

The aim is to not demonise students but to make the social environment good for all communities.
